Whitelist

What is a Whitelist?

A whitelist identifies all known “good items,” including applications allowed to run on a specified system and IP addresses approved to deliver recipient email. Whitelisting allows emails from a specified source to be delivered. Adding email addresses that are trusted allows them to easily pass through the company spam filter or junk folder. Whitelisting IP addresses varies across internet security platforms as well as from email client to email client. Whitelisting may also be used as a list of items signature-based scanners do not examine. (Some businesses may consider whitelisting impractical due to cost and time to maintain it).
