What is a URL?

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the HTTP or FTP protocol, or the domain name or IP address, and added folder / file path information. URL can refer (or link) to any file supported by the protocol, such as a web page, blog file, image file, etc. URLs are important for on-page SEO. Search engines hunt for the included text when mining for keywords.
URLs aid marketers supplying keyword-rich content or direct users. Example of a URL: http://www.examplewidget.com. Example of a URL web page file: http://www.examplewidget/filepage.com
