Levels of Authentication

What is Levels of Authentication?

Authentication is a security identity process that verifies an individual is permitted access to a specified domain. The number of levels of authentication is typically based on the sensitivity of the information being accessed or used. For example, a two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second level of authenticating to the basic log-in (username and password) procedure. 2FA is common, and requires the user provides three types of credentials (PIN, phone number, ATM card, or fingerprint) before being allowed access. Two out of 3 is acceptable.
