What is a Keyword?

Keywords, and keyword phrases, index web pages from search results from search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Keywords selected that optimize a webpage must have significant search volume, be easy to rank, and ensure it/they supports the target audience. On-page and off-page methods are used after keywords are ranked so the appropriate web pages are optimized. “Mobile keywords” are used in text message marketing. They are provided to individuals that are invited to text the keyword(s) to a specific number giving permission to receive advertising/coupons/promotions, etc.
